factoring ___ t^2(t^2 - 3t - 40) = 0

factoring the quadratic ___ t^2(t + 5)(t - 8) = 0

t^2 = 0 ___ taking square root ___ t=0

t + 5 = 0 ___ subtracting 5 ___ t = -5

t - 8 = 0 ___ adding 8 ___ t = 8

start by factoring out
factor further
set each part equal to zero and solve for t

So the answers are t=0, or t=8 or t=-5.
