For dividing synthetically, we write out the coefficients of the dividend, 3x^3 – x^2 + 4x – 10 and use the root of x + 1, which is -1 to be our "divisor," like this:
-1_____3____-1____4____-10
____________-3____4____-8
_______3____-4____8____-18
so that our answer, our quotient, is
3x^2 - 4x + 8 with a remainder of -18/(x+1)
