Question 392580: factor x^3y+2x^2y^2+xy^3
Answer by haileytucki(390) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x^(3)y+2x^(2)y^(2)+xy^(3)
Factor out the GCF of xy from each term in the polynomial.
xy(x^(2))+xy(2xy)+xy(y^(2))
Factor out the GCF of xy from x^(3)y+2x^(2)y^(2)+xy^(3).
xy(x^(2)+2xy+y^(2))
In this problem 1*1=1 and 1+1=2, so insert 1 as the right hand term of one factor and 1 as the right-hand term of the other factor.
xy(x+y)(x+y)
Combine the two common factors of (x+y) by adding the exponents.
xy(x+y)^(2)
