Question 388943: Can someone help me solve Problem?
Add
(8x^2-xy+x^2) (-x^2-9xy+9y^2)___?

Answer by haileytucki(390)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you are adding the two, (there was no addition sign between them), then:
(8x^(2)-xy+x^(2))+(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Since 8x^(2) and x^(2) are like terms, add x^(2) to 8x^(2) to get 9x^(2).
(9x^(2)-xy)+(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Remove the parentheses that are not needed from the expression.
9x^(2)-xy-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2)
Since 9x^(2) and -x^(2) are like terms, add -x^(2) to 9x^(2) to get 8x^(2).
8x^(2)-xy-9xy+9y^(2)
Since -xy and -9xy are like terms, subtract 9xy from -xy to get -10xy.
Answer: 8x^(2)-10xy+9y^(2)

If they are worked "as is"; you are multiplying the two:

(8x^(2)-xy+x^(2))(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Since 8x^(2) and x^(2) are like terms, add x^(2) to 8x^(2) to get 9x^(2).
(9x^(2)-xy)(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Factor out the GCF of x from each term in the polynomial.
(x(9x)+x(-y))(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Factor out the GCF of x from 9x^(2)-xy.
(x(9x-y))(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
Remove the parentheses around the x.
Answer : x(9x-y)(-x^(2)-9xy+9y^(2))
