Question 385127: My son is trying to solve this problem and I am not sure if I am telling him the right steps
Solve for x: (x-1)(x+7) = (x+1)(x-3)

I multiplied the two sides first
x^2+7x-x=x^2-3x+x-3
combine
x^2+6x=x^2-2x-3
subtract x^2 from both sides
6x-7=-2x-3
add 2x
8x-7=-3
add 7
8x=4
x=.5 or 1/2
