Okay, the idea is to factor and cancel...so from
[x^2 + 5x - 36) / (8x^2 + 35x + 12)] * [(64x^2 - 9) / (8x^2 + 69x - 27)]
we can factor into
[(x + 9)(x - 4) / (8x + 3)(x + 4)] * [(8x + 3)(8x - 3) / (8x - 3)(x + 9)
now cancel top and bottom and get
(x - 4) / (x + 4)
