Question 35959: I have a very frustrated child trying to figure out simplfying and expanding. Description or easy way to do this is not so easy to understand. Can you give an explanation that I can try to help.

Try to tell your student or child that simplfying is making the fractions smaller and that you have to find a number that both numbers go into so that it can get smaller. Try it if it doesn't work sorry im not a making stuff into child language.
