= 2x^3 + x^2 -4x^2-18x-8
= x^2(2x+1) -2(2x^2 + 9x+4)
= x^2(2x+1) -2(2x+1)(x+4)
= (2x+1)(x^2-2x-8)
= (2x+1)(x-4)(x+2)

Or use syntheic division
