Question 3490: factor the polynomialhttp://algebra.com/tutors/faq.mpl
2x^3-3x^2-18x-8

Answer by khwang(438)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x) = 2x^3-3x^2-18x-8
= 2x^3 + x^2 -4x^2-18x-8
= x^2(2x+1) -2(2x^2 + 9x+4)
= x^2(2x+1) -2(2x+1)(x+4)
= (2x+1)(x^2-2x-8)
= (2x+1)(x-4)(x+2)

Or use syntheic division
2 -3 -18 -8 (-2
-4 +14 +8
-------------
2 -7 -4 +0 (4
+8 +4
---------
2 +1 +0
