Question 33527: This problem appeared on my test last night and it is really bothering me, could someone help!! The width of a rectangle is 3ft plus 2x it's length, and the area is 104. Can you tell me the dimensions?
(x)(2x+3)=104
2x^2+3-104=0
(2x+ )(x- )
I can not seem to factor 104 to get to the number three to go any further.
Answer by longjonsilver(2297) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(2x-13)(x+8) = 0
2x-13=0 or x+8=0
2x = 13 or x=-8
x = 13/2 or x=-8
So, the rectangle is 6.5x16
jon.
