6a + 8 = 5a + 15 (please explain how this section came about. I am still not sure how to explain it. Thank you).
6a + 8 - 5a = 15
a + 8 = 15
a = 8 +15
a = 7

You need to find a common denominator.

Use as the common denominator.

If the fraction equals zero, then the numerator must equal zero.
<---- This is the same as your first line except 5a+15 is on the right.
