Question 318156: Find the zeros of the polynomial function and give the multiplicity for each zero. State whether the graph crosses the x-axis or touches the x-axis and turns around, at each zero.
f(x)=x^3+2x^2-x-2
Answer by edjones(8007) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x)=x^3+2x^2-x-2
x^2(x+2)-(x+2)=0
(x^2-1)(x+2)=0
(x+1)(x-1)(x+2)=0
x=-2, x=-1, x=1 The zeros.
The multiplicity of each of the zeros is one.
.
Check points between the zeros to see what graph does:
When x=-3, f(x)=-8
when x=-3/2, f(x)=.625
when x=0, f(x)=-2
when x=2, f(x)=12
