the length of a rectangle is 6 inches more than twice the width if the perimeter is 84 inches find the demension
.
Let w = width
then from "the length of a rectangle is 6 inches more than twice the width"
2w+6 = length
.
2(w + 2w+6) = 84
2(3w+6) = 84
6w+12 = 84
6w = 72
w = 12 inches (width)
.
Length:
2w+6 = 2(12)+6 = 24+6 = 30 inches
