(3x^2-7x+1)/(3x-1)

I get a remainder also! Are you sure you copied the problem correctly? If the problem had been (3x^2-7x+2)/(3x-1), then the remainder is zero. Actually, the numerator would have factored, and the fraction would have reduced.
