If this is your problem, multiply thru by 8 to get:
(2a+7) - 4(6a-2) -8(a+3) = 0
---
2a+7 -24a + 8 -8a -24 = 0
---
(2a-24a-8a)+(7+8-24) = 0
---------
-30a - 9 = 0
---
30a = -9
---
a = -3/10
