Question 28581: i missed a day of class and am completely stuck on this problem.
Use substitution to determine whether x+2 is a factor of x^3+4x^2+5x+2.
I have no idea of how to go about this problem, help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Kirstie

Answer by askmemath(368)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If X+2 is a factor then it means that X = -2 will satisfy the given equation. So you simply put X = -2 into the equation and prove that it equals 0. If it does not equal 0, then it means that X+2 is NOT a factor of the given equation.
I hope you can do this.
