the denominators factor into (t-3)(t-1)
the numerators added together become
1-5t+7-3t
8-8t=8*(1-t)
(1-t)=-(t-1)
so we have -8*(t-1)/(t-3)*(t-1)
so the (t-1)'s cancel out
