 "The square of 5 more than a number."
This "number" we traditionally call x. So 5 more than a number would be x+5. If you wanted to square it you would then write:
  You can check to see if your equation is right by then trying a number, let's say 3.
"The square of 5 more than 3."  Think: five more than three is 8.  8 Squared is 64.
