Question 27665: Find each of the following squares.
(w - 1/4)^2
please help.
Thank you.

Answer by sdmmadam@yahoo.com(530)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(w - 1/4)^2
= (w)^2 + 2(w)(-1/4)+ (-1/4)^2
using (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2 and here a = w and b = (-1/4)
= w^2-w/2+ 1/16 [using 2X(-1/4)=(-2/4)=-1/2 and (-1/4)^2=(-1/4)X(-1/4)=(1/16)
Answer: w^2-w/2+ 1/16
Note: You may directly use the formula (x-y)^2 = x^2-2xy + y^2 instead of putting the second term b above as b =(-1/4)
