Question 268680: One leg of a right triangle is 6 cm shorter than the other leg. The length of the hypotenuse is 30 cm. Find the length of the longer leg.
Answer by palanisamy(496)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the length of the longer leg = x
Then, x^2+(x-6)^2=30^2
x^2+x^2-12x+36-900=0
2x^2-12x-864=0
x^2-6x-432=0
(x+18)(x-24) =0
x = -18 or x=24
x cannot be negative
so x=24
