the basic factoring form is: a^2 - bx - c with addition or subtraction signs in between according to the problem. the goal of factoring is to find two numbers that will multiply into the c term and add up to the b term.
c^2 - 10c - 24
(c-6)(c-4)
c = 4 and 6
