Distribute the x to each term of ( x 3 + 3x + 2). Then distribute the 1 to each term of ( x 3 + 3x + 2). the negative here " – ( x 4 + x 2 + 2x)" Goes with everything in the parenthesis, so distribute it to each term. Combine all this together by adding/subtracting like terms. I believe your x^4 terms cancel out and there are no x^3 terms, so this will be a 2nd degree polynomial.
