Question 24738: in 9th grade algebra how do you add and subtract polynomials
Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When you add polynomials, you just combine like terms.

When you subtract polynomials, multiply through the second polynomial by -1, and then add. For a more detailed explanation of this, go to my website by clicking on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com, go to "Basic Algebra", and look for "Samples from Basic Algebra: One Step at a Time." Then click on Chapter 1 and look for Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property." I already thought I had this as a Lesson Plan in Algebra.com, but I don't think I did this one yet. Until I get it posted in algebra.com, you can get it free on my website.
