Question 247199: Good morning guys:)
I have an equation that says
The N is an exponent yet I will write it as 4n since I don't know how to do otherwise)
The 3 is an exponent=3rd power
The whole n+2 is an exponent.
The 42 is not 42 but 4 to the second power.
The n-1 is an exponent

Solve for N: (4n)3 (2n+2)=(42)n-1
Confusing I know
So I tried the foil method yet it didn't work. So then I multiplied
(4)(2)(4) and got 32 which I then divided by three and got 14.
Then I added exponents
3+2+2 which equals 7.
14 divided by 7 equals 2 which I chose as my answer.
I'm not sure this makes any sense yet any help would be welcome.
Thank you.

Is that it?
If so,
3n(n+2) = 2(n-1)
3n^2 + 6n = 2n - 2
3n^2 + 4n + 2 = 0
--------
The solution is a complex number.
Confirm via the thank you note that it's the problem you meant.
