determine the values for which each rational expression is defined
x-3/[x(x-5)]
----
Since the denominator cannot be zero, so x cannot be zero
and x cannot be 5.
---------------------
So the expression is defined for All Real Numbers except
x = 0 and x = 5.

Rational expressions are defined for all numbers except those that would make the denominator expression be equal to zero.
