solve for x in this expression?
x+1/x+5=x+2/x+4
:
Assume the problem is:
=
Cross multiply and you have:
(x+5)*(x+2) = (x+1)*(x+4)
FOIL
x^2 + 7x + 10 = x^2 + 5x + 4
:
Group x's on the left, numbers on the right
x^2 - x^2 + 7x - 5x = 4 - 10
2x = -6
x =
x = -3
;
Leave it to you to substitute -3 for x in the original problem, and check for equality
