Of course this is only correct if we presume that the unit of measure for the width, which you (or perhaps your textbook or instructor) failed to specify, is yards. You have to make some presumption about the unit of measure for the width or you cannot solve this problem at all.

6x%2B6+=+2%28L%2Bx%29 Divide both sides by 2.
