Question 231173: x/3 = 4/x + 1
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x/3 = 4/x + 1
-------
Multiply thru by 3x to get:
x^2 = 12 + 3x
Rearrange:
x^2-3x-12 = 0
Use the Quadratic formula:
x = [3 +- sqrt(9 - 4*1*-12)]/2
---
x = [3 +- sqrt(57)]/2
---
x = [3 + sqrt(57)]/2 or x = [3 - sqrt(57)]/2
