Set equation equal to zero by adding -x%5E2-4x+-4 to each side:
2x%5E2-2x+-4+=+0

Factor the common factor of 2:

Factor the trinomial:
2%28x-2%29%28x%2B1%29+=+0

Set each factor equal to zero. The 2 from the common factor does not give any solutions.
x-2=0, so x=2
