15+12x=9
15-15+12x=9-15

first you need to distribute the numbers like this:
3(5+4x)=9
3(5)+12x=9
15+12x=9
then subtract 15 from each sides
12x=-6
now divide each side by 12
x=-6/12
x=-1/2
