age now: ann's age = x
al's age = x-.25
age 6years ago:
ann - x-6
al - x-.50

age now: ann's age = x
al's age = x-.25 *********** It's x - .25x
age 6years ago:
ann - x-6
al - x-.50 ************** Same here, it's x - 0.5x
----------------------------------------------------
x = Ann's age now
y = Al's age now
y = 0.75x (Now)
y-6 = 0.5x (6 yrs ago)

Sub for y into 2nd eqn
0.75x - 6 = 0.5x
0.25x = 6
x = 24
Ann is 24
Al is 18

It can be done with one variable, but this is straightforward, imo.
