We're looking for 2 factors that when multiplied gives us - 36 (c * a), and when added gives us - 16 (middle term of the trinomial)

These 2 factors are - 18 and + 2

Therefore, we restate the original trinomial, substituting - 18y and + 2y for - 16 (middle term of the trinomial)

We then have:

Find the GCFs of the two expressions, and then factor each

6y(2y - 3) + 1(2y - 3)
