If you know Synthetic division it is easier than log division. I'm going to do this with long division because I don't feel like explaining Synthetic division again right now. (Someday I'll try an Algebra.com "lesson" on Synthetic Division.)

        4x^2 + 4x + (-4)
        ___________________________________
x + 1/2/4x^3 + 6x^2 + (-2x) + 5
        4x^3 + 2x^2
       ------------
               4x^2 + (-2x)
               4x^2 + 2x
               ------------
                       -4x + 5
                       -4x + (-2)
                       -----------
                                7

So the remainder is 7.
