Question 197386: I'm trying to find all numbers for which the following radical expression is undefined. If the expression is defined for all real numbers, then I am to state so. I even have the answer to the problem. I just can't figure out how to factor to get to the correct answer:
y + 3 over
4y^2 + y - 3
I set the denominator to zero and tried to solve:
4y^2 + y - 3 = 0

(x - 1) = 0 (x + 3) = 0
add 1 to each side subtract 3 from each side
x = 1 x = - 3
This is the answer I come up with, but the correct answer is y = -1, y = 3/4.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks!
