Answer by vleith(2983)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let's make one that has only one variable x.
x^2 + 5x + 1 has 3 terms
Let's make one that has 2 variables (x and y)
x + y + 3 has three terms
x^2*y - 2y - x has three terms
The main thing you need to understand is that 'terms' are separated by either addition or subtraction. Multiplication and division are 'inside' a single term.
Thus
x^3*y^4 / z is a single term in three variables (x,y and z)
make sense?
