Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-1/(x-5)=(x-6)/(x-5) Use parentheses.
-1=x-6 multiply each side by x-5.
x=5

Answer by themathprof(21)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-1/x-5=x-6/x-5
LCD=(x-5)
multiply both sides by x-5
What's left after cancelling are just the numerators
-1=x-6
transpose -6 to left side
-1+6=x
5=x
looks good, however you must check the answer
but when you replace x=5 in each denominator
x-5=5-5=0
both denominators become zero.
That's a no no.
You can't divide by zero.
So, we say that there are NO solutions to the equation.
