Question 161259: can someone please help
Use a calculator to solve the equation. Round to the nearest hundredth.
(2.85x - 2.52)/1.06 -(2.39x - 3.56)/1.01 = x

Answer by schrammbledeggs(41)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can split this equation into 4 different fractions:
(2.85x/1.06) - (2.52/1.06) - (2.39x/1.01) + (3.56/1.01) = x
Note that there's a + at the end because we distributed a negative onto a negative number and that yields a positive...
Since you say you can use a calculator...I'M going to use a calculator too :)
2.69x (approximately) - 2.38 (approximately) - 2.37x (approximately) + 3.52 (approximately) = x

Subtract x from both sides and combine like terms.
2.69x - 2.37x - x - 2.38 + 3.52 = x - x
-0.68x + 1.14 = 0
Subtract 1.14 from both sides...
-0.68x + 1.14 - 1.14 = 0 - 1.14
-0.68x = -1.14
Divide out a -0.68
x = -1.14 / -0.68
x = 1.68 (approximately)
:)
