3. How do I solve this equation using factoring? Thank you.
x^2 + 6 = -5x
----------------
Get all the terms on the same side
x^2 + 5x + 6 = 0
It will be (x + a)*(x + b)
It's almost always integers, so look for a and b whose product is 6. The possibilities are 1 and 6, or 2 and 3.
The x term is 5, so a and b add up to 5. 1 and 6 don't, so it's 2 and 3.
(x+2)*(x+3) = 0
x = -2
x = -3
