Square boh sides:
3x + 24 = (x+2)^2
3x + 24 = x^2 + 4x + 4
x^2 +x -20 = 0
(x+5)(x-4) = 0
x = -5 or x = 4

Check these answers in sqrt(3x+24) = x+2:
x = -5 ? : sqrt(-15+24) = -5+2 = sqrt(9) = 3 : OK
x = 4 ? : sqrt(12+24) = 6 : OK
