get rid of parentheses
4x - 8 = 0
Isolate x, get x terms on one side of equal sign
4x = 8
Divide by 4
x = 2
--------
Or,
4(x-2)=0
Divide by 4
(x-2) = 0
Add 2 to both sides
x = 2
