so factor by grouping
8x^2-2x+12x-3=0
so from the first two terms factor a 2x and from the second two terms factor a 3
you get 2x(4x-1)+ 3(4x-1)=0
factor 4x-1 from both terms
(2x+3)(4x-1)=0
set each term equal to 0
2x+3=0 or 4x-1=0
x=-3/2 or 1/4
