Solve by completing the square. Write the solutions in simplest radical form. The equation is x to the 2nd power + 6x = 3 Thanks for any help you can give me.
.
x^2 + 6x = 3
.
take the 6, divide by 2:
6/2 = 3
.
completing the square of
produces:
(x+3)^2 - 9 (subtract 9 because of the 3^2)
.
(x+3)^2 = 3 + 9
(x+3)^2 = 12
.
take the square root of both sides:
x+3 = sqrt(12)
x+3 = 2sqrt(3)
x = 2sqrt(3) - 3
