In case it is hard to read...the problem is four over x over three minus one over x. My book says the answer is four over three x minus one but i am having difficulty reaching that answer.

[4/x] / [3- 1/x]
= [4/x]/[(3x-1)/x]
Invert the denominator and multiply :
= [4/x] * [x/(3x-1)]
Cancel where you can to get:
= 4/(3x-1)
