the excluded values are those which would result in the denominator having a value of zero
__ division by zero is a no-no (undefined)
x^3+4x^2+3x=0 __ factoring __ x(x^2+4x+3)=0 __ factoring __ x(x+3)(x+1)=0
x=0
x+3=0 __ x=-3
x+1=0 __ x=-1
0, -3, and -1 are excluded
