A quotient is the result of dividing one expression by another. For example if you said: 3 into 6 goes 2 times, 3 is the divisor, 6 is the dividend, and 2 is the quotient.

A term is a constant, a variable, or the product of one or more constants and/or one or more variables.

are all examples of terms. Notice that there aren't any plus or minus signs in any of these expressions.

A polynomial is either one term (called a monomial) or the sum of two or more terms. So, all of the examples above are monomials and they are also polynomials, but polynomials could also be things like:

(both binomials)

(both trinomials)

All of the examples are polynomials. So take something that looks like something in the first list and divide it by any of the examples and you will have the quotient of a monomial divided by a polynomial
