make the number 10 times larger. In order to keep it the same,
you must multiply by each time also, because

0.00083 x 10 = 0.0083
0.0083 x 10 = 0.083
0.083 x 10 = 0.83
0.83 x 10 = 8.3
I moved the decimal point 4 times to the right, so now I have to
multiply by to keep the number the same
0.00083 =
Note that scientific notation always looks like this:
just 1 digit to the right of the decimal point, so you've got
to end up with something like n.nnnnn x 10^x
