Question 133105: Solve.
3/x = 7/x - 1/3
Answer by nycsharkman(136) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It's called a rational expression because the word rational means fraction.
3/x = 7/x - 1/3
Multiply everything on both sides of the equation by the LCD.
Our LCD is 3x.
3/x times 3x = 9
7/x times 3x = 21
-1/3 times 3x = -x
We have removed all fractions. This is the reason why we must multiply by the LCD.
9 = 21 - x
9 - 21 = -x
-12 = -x
-12/-1 = x
12 = x
