Use FOIL to multiply:
(4x – 9)(3x – 5)
FOIL is an acronym used to help the student remember how to multiply expressions of the form (a+b)(c+d). It stands for:
F=First
O=Outer
I=Inner
L=Last
If we apply this to your problem, we get:
First--------------4x*3x=12x^2
Outer---------------4x*(-5)=-20x
Inner---------------(-9)*3x=-27x
Last-------------------(-9)(-5)=45
Now if we add the terms up, we get:
12x^2-47x+45
Hope this helps---ptaylor
