let x="old hours" and y="old pay rate" __ xy=63 __ y=63/x

with raise __ (x-2)(y+.75)=63

substituting for y __ (x-2)((63/x)+.75)=63 __ 63+.75x-(126/x)-1.5=63

multiplying by x __ 63x+.75x^2-126-1.5x=63x __ .75x^2-1.5x-126=0

multiplying by 4/3 __ x^2-2x-168=0

factoring __ (x-14)(x+12)=0
