Question 1209469: This is a problem that uses the answer from the previous question so I will type both questions, but only need helps with the second question.
This is the information given: A sculptor had a block of marble in the shape of a cube with sides x feet long. a piece that was 1/2-foot thick was chiseled from the bottom of the block. Later, the sculptor removed a piece 3/4-foot wide from the side of the marble block.
Question #1: Write a rational expression that represents the volume of the block of marble. (Do not need help with this one)
Question #2: If the remaining marble was cut into pieces weighing 85 pounds each, write an expression that represents the weight of the original block of the marble.
Thank you very much.

(Q1) I will assume that the second cut was parallel to the first cut.

      Initially, the volume of the cube was x^3 cubic feet.

      After first cut, the volume of the remained part is x^3 - cubic feet.

      After second cut, the volume of the remained part is

            x^3 -  -  = x^3 -   cubic feet.   <<<---===  Answer to Q1

(Q2) The remaining marble was cut into pieces weighting 85 pounds each

      - hence, the weight of the whole remained part before cutting in two equal mass pieces was 2*85 = 170 pounds.

      Now, if we want to find the weight of the original cube, we write this equation

            = 170  pounds,    (1)

      where d is the density of the marble, in units .

      Would the problem in the post be actual/(true) Math problem, it must provide the density of marble "d" in the text
      as a given input value. But it does not provide, so I start doubt if it is a true Math problem.

      At these circumstances, you should find the density of the marble "d" somewhere in the tables outside.

      When you find it - substitute the value of the marble density "d" into equation (1) and solve it for x.

Happy calculations (!)
